Ich beschleunige das Eintreten der Zukunft

Ich habe in meiner wöchentlichen Kolumne für die Frankfurter Rundschau über Strom geschrieben, unter anderem über die Ladekosten von E-Autos. Daraufhin haben mir mehrere Besitzer von E-Autos geschrieben (ich hatte bereits im Beitrag auf die ungewöhnliche energy literacy dieser Bevölkerungsgruppe hingewiesen), um mir zu sagen, dass diese Ladekosten in Wirklichkeit noch niedriger liegen.

Einer der hilfsbereiten Leser weist außerdem auf die Nützlichkeit von dynamischen Stromtarifen hin, und dabei merke ich, dass ich so was auch gern hätte. Ich habe nämlich in Berlin nur zwei nennenswerte Stromverbraucher im Haushalt, mein beheiztes Wasserbett und einen elektrischen Warmwasserspeicher. Bei beiden ist es egal, wann ich den Strom für das Erwärmen des Wassers beziehe. Es wäre gut für die gleichmäßige Auslastung der Stromnetze, gut für die Umwelt und gut für meine Stromrechnung, wenn ich das zu den Zeiten tun könnte, zu denen viel Strom aus erneuerbaren Quellen im Netz ist. Genau genommen könnte ich es natürlich jetzt schon so einrichten, nur auf meine Stromrechnung wirkt es sich noch nicht aus. Ich habe mich bisher nur nicht darum gekümmert, weil ich nicht auf die Idee gekommen bin (und bis zu diesem Techniktagebuchbeitrag aus dem Juli 2024 auch gar nicht wusste, wann die besten Zeiten dafür sind).

Ich sehe auf der Seite meines Stromunternehmens Naturstrom nach, dort wird so ein Tarif angeboten. Das scheint ziemlich neu zu sein, jedenfalls entnehme ich einem Zeitungsartikel aus dem Frühjahr 2023, dass Naturstrom so einen Tarif damals noch nicht hatte, obwohl seit Anfang 2023 alle großen Stromunternehmen einen dynamischen Stromtarif anbieten müssen.

Bisher zahle ich 30 bis 32 Cent pro Kilowattstunde. Im neuen dynamischen Tarif sieht es so aus, als wären es je nach Tageszeit zwischen 23 und 40 Cent. Davon sind 18 Cent für so allgemeine Dinge wie die Existenz eines Stromnetzes. Der Rest ist der Börsenpreis für eine Kilowattstunde.

Man braucht für den Tarif aber ein "Smart Meter", und auf der Naturstrom-Erklärseite lerne ich jetzt auch endlich, was das ist. Man kann einen digitalen Zähler haben, der trotzdem kein Smart Meter ist. Smart wird er erst, wenn er zusätzlich eine Kommunikationseinheit besitzt, die die gezählten Daten anderswohin übermitteln kann. Das geschieht zu meiner Freude nicht, wie ich bisher dachte, über das WLAN der Wohnung (das ich nach wie vor nicht habe, in der Wohnung gibt es nur Internet, wenn ich mit meinem Handy anwesend bin), sondern auf unklaren anderen Wegen.

Ich habe in den letzten Jahren gelegentlich zwecks Dokumentation des Zählerstands Fotos von meinem Stromzähler gemacht. Diesen Fotos kann ich jetzt entnehmen, dass der Zähler seit dem letzten Austausch vor ein paar Jahren bereits digital ist, aber nicht über das wichtige Datenübermittlungs-Kastl verfügt.

Ich recherchiere weiter und finde heraus, dass man ab 2025 selbst beantragen kann, dass der Zähler so ein Smart Meter Gateway nachgerüstet bekommt. 2025, das ist ja sehr bald! Ich überlege kurz, ob ich erst mal mehr über die damit zusammenhängenden Datenschutzfragen herausfinden soll, aber bis spätestens 2030 oder 2032 sollen alle Zähler damit ausgestattet werden, die möglicherweise ungünstige Zukunft kommt also sowieso. Dann kann ich auch gleich damit anfangen und brauche nichts zu recherchieren.

Auf der für mich zuständigen Seite www.stromnetz.berlin finde ich nach etwas Suchen heraus, was dafür zu tun ist. Ich brauche zuerst ein Kundenkonto, das sich einfach einrichten lässt, ohne dass ich irgendein Passwort erst per Post zugeschickt bekommen muss. Ich kann also sofort danach ein paar Minuten lang Formulare ausfüllen und viele Male auf "Weiter" klicken, dann ist mein Smart Meter Gateway beantragt. Der Einbau darf maximal 30 Euro kosten, dazu kommen möglicherweise (es ist etwas undurchschaubar) noch mal 20 Euro Grundgebühr pro Jahr.

Wie ich meine Geräte dazu bewegen werde, den Strom auch wirklich nur zu den günstigen Zeiten zu beziehen, weiß ich noch nicht. Aber das finde ich dann raus, wenn die Zählerzukunft wirklich da ist.

There are a number of questions about using 4G. By the time the network has been changed to 4G it will be 30 years old and we will be thinking about 6G. A different and may be better option would be to use NB-IoT protocols that run over 4G, but would also run over 5G and 6G so more future proof. Vodafone have not released any details of which technology they are using so they may be using NB_IoT.

Either way there is a big and expensive change coming to our smart meter network. For one I am happy as this may solve the communication issue with my meter.
